Cute FTP
is a Windows based File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client that
allows you to utilise the capabilities of FTP without having
to know all the details of the protocol itself. It is
extremely easy to publish your site on i12 with Cute FTP,
so we've made this mini-tutorial to make things even easier!
(To download the latest version of Cute
FTP please click here).
Step one: adding your site Start Cute
FTP by double-clicking on the Cute FTP icon. The
first window to display is the Site Manager, which contains
the server information for connecting to your favourite sites.
Select a folder (click on the name)
for the new site to reside in or create a new folder. To create
a folder, click the "Add Folder" button. Enter the
new folder name and click "OK". Select the new folder
(click on the new name) for the new site to reside in.

Click the "Add Site" button.
Enter a name for your site in the "Site Label" field.

In the "General" tab,
enter in the space for "Site Label" a name you will
remember for your site, for example "my web". Enter
websites.i12.com in the "Host Address" field. (Don't
type in ftp:// or http:// before the server address).

Enter the UserID (your i12 e-mail
address in the format youremailaddress@i12.com) in the "UserID"
field and the password in the "Password" field.
Both the userID and password are case sensitive. Then Click
"OK".
Step two: connecting to your site
Click on "FTP" then on "Site Manager"
or press F4 on your keyboard to go to "FTP Site Manager"
, highlight your site in the right window and click the "Connect"
button.

After connecting Cute FTP will display
some messages from the server administrator informing you
of rules and regulations of the server. Click the OK button
at the bottom of this screen to clear the message.

Step three: uploading your web pages
The Main Screen is used to transfer files to and from remote
servers. This screen is divided into four windows: an upper
window, two centre windows, and a lower window.

Upper Window: The log window displays the commands
you give Cute FTP and the server's responses. Cute
FTP logs this information to inform you of completed transactions
or to assist in troubleshooting.
Centre Left Window (Local): The local
window displays the selected directory from your hard-drive.
Centre Right Window (Remote): The
remote window displays the files and directories of the server
you are connected to.
Lower Window (Queue): The queue window
is used for temporary storage of files you wish to transfer
at a later time. You will see the following screen:

Click on the
button to browse your Hard Drive.
Once you are connected to a remote
server there are four methods of transferring files:
Option 1: Drag and Drop. Select the
file(s) or folders(s) that you want to transfer. Use your
left mouse button to "grab" the highlighted file(s)
and drag it (them) to the opposite window and drop it (them)
anywhere in that window.
Option 2: Menu/Tool Bar. Highlight
the files you want to transfer. To use the menu bar, click
on "Commands" then "Upload or Download".
To use the toolbar, click the "Upload" or "Download"
button (looks like an arrow pointing up or down).
Option 3: Double-click the File.
Highlight the file you want to transfer and double click.
Option 4: Right-click popup menu.
Highlight the file and RIGHT click then select transfer from
the popup menu.
Make sure that the first page of
your website is called index.htm or index.html, otherwise
your visitors will only see a list of files.
Once you have finished uploading the
selected files you can close Cute FTP.
