To get the most out of your i12 connection, you need to make
sure that your modem is installed and configured correctly.
To do this, open the "Control Panel" by clicking
the "Start" button, then "Settings", then
"Control Panel".
Then double-click the "Modems"
icon at which point the following window should appear:

Click on the modem of choice. This
should normally be the only modem installed in your computer.
If no modem is installed, install a modem driver from the
disks provided with your modem or alternatively you could
install the Standard Modem driver from your Windows 95/98
CD.
To configure your modem, make sure
the following settings are correct. Click on Properties, the
following window should appear.

Make sure that the Maximum Speed
is set to the fastest available speed. Also check that the
Port is set to the COM port hosting your modem; this is normally
COM1 or COM2 for external modems and COM3 or COM46 for internal
modems.
Then click on the "Connection
Tab"

Make sure that the "Connection"
preferences are:
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Then click on the "ok"
button. This should take you back to the Modems Properties
Windows.
Click on the "Dialling Properties"
tab.

Select United Kingdom from the country/region
box if you live in the UK and enter your area code (try to
enter the new area codes for the area you live in, for example
in London, enter 020). Please note that if your telephone
line is behind an internal phone system that requires a 9
to dial an outside telephone dial tone, you need to enter
9(then a comma) in the "For local calls" dial field.
Finally click "ok" and
you modem should now be optimised for the fastest possible
connection using your i12 account.
