Windows NT dial up networking setup

Setting up your i12 connection under Windows NT couldn't be easier! Simply follow the easy steps below to get your computer connected to the internet.

If you do not have Dial up Networking installed on your Windows NT computer, you must install it using the "Add/Remove" programs dialog found in "Control Panel". Once you have installed Dial up Networking, double-click your "My Computer" icon, and then double click on the "Dial up Networking" folder.

If you receive a message stating that "The phonebook is empty", then click "ok" to add a new entry, if Dial-up Networking already has other phone book entries, click "New".

If the New Phonebook Entry Wizard window appears, check the box labelled "I know all about phonebook entries" and click Finish.

In the New Phonebook Entry dialog, select the Basic tab. Check "Use Telephony dialling properties" and uncheck "Use another port if busy". For Entry name, enter i12.

Enter the country code and area code of the number you are dialling, plus the phone number itself. Under Dial using, select your modem.

Click the Configure button, then set the Initial speed (BPS) to 19,200 if you have a 14.4k modem, or 38,400 if you have a 28.8k modem or 115,200 if you have a 56k modem. Make sure all three Hardware Features boxes are checked (if applicable) and that Disable modem speaker is not checked.

Then, click the "ok" button and select the Server tab.

The Dial-up server type should be PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet. For Network Protocols only TCP/IP should be checked.

Make sure Enable software compression is checked, but Enable PPP LCP extensions unchecked. Make sure none is selected.

Click the TCP/IP settings button and select "Server assigned IP address" and "Specify name server addresses".

The Primary DNS text box should be left blank, as this is allocated on dial-up. In the Secondary DNS text box, type 212.1.130.32

Leave the Primary WINS and Secondary WINS servers at 0.0.0.0. and check both "Use IP header compression" and "Use default gateway on remote network".

Then click the "ok" button and select the Script tab. Then select the Security tab and select "Accept any authentication including clear text".

On the New Phonebook Entry window, click OK. You will now be in the Dial-up Networking program, and the phone book entry you just created should be selected in the Phonebook entry to dial text box.

Click the Dial button. A window will appear asking for a username, password, and domain. Simply enter your username (which begins with "hay" and is followed by seven numbers), your password. You do not need to enter anything for the Domain.

Finally click the "ok" button and after your modem dials up and logs in, simply launch your web browser and you're ready to use the Net!
